Adult Programming In July

It’s been a great June at Spencer Public Library and we are looking forward to a fun July.  There is still time to sign-up for the Adult Summer Reading Program, Escape the Ordinary.  Anytime you read a book, attend an Adult Program, and/or write a book review, you get a chance to win fabulous prizes.
We will be reading Dashiell Hammett’s classic book, “The Maltese Falcon”. This 1929 detective story was originally serialized in the magazine, The Black Mask. The main character, Sam Spade, the iconic hardnosed private detective, set the standard by which all future detective fiction would be judged. Read the book, and then watch the movie in August. Sign-up at the front desk to reserve your copy today!
Join us on July 6, for a family friendly program. The DIY Club is back making paracord bracelets, drawing pictures, and writing letters to our troops. All items made will be sent to the Non-profit organization, Operation Gratitude, who will then send everything in a care package to U.S. troops. This is a great way to show your appreciation to the men and women in our armed services and for High School students to get a service hour!
Escape the Ordinary and come to the Spencer Public Library’s Wii Bowling Night! Food, fun and a little friendly competition make for a great night. Special team bowling shirts will be given to all who enter so sign-up today!
Adults will be watching the Romance movie, “The Longest Ride”.  A popular novel by Nicholas Sparks and starring Clint Eastwood’s son, Scott Eastwood, “The Longest Ride” centers on a star-crossed love affair between a Bull Rider and an Artist.   As always the movie and treats are free! To reserve a seat call 580-7290 or sign-up at the front desk.
Sadly, at the end of July we will be saying goodbye to the Adult Summer Reading Program. But, before we say farewell, those who finished the program (read three books) will have a great time at the final Murder Mystery Party on July 31. So, put on your detective hat and search the library for clues to discover who the murderer is. Door prizes and snacks available! Remember to return all prize entry slips, turn-in all book reviews, and RSVP for the party by July 29 before 5:00 PM. We will have the final prize drawing for the Kindle Fire at the Murder Mystery Party, but you do not need to attend to win.

Code Club

Just a reminder for our junior coders: the next Code Club Meeting is today, July 1st at 10:30 am!
