Join Us During National Library Week!

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK
Come celebrate National Library Week with us, April 9th through 15th!
This week, Spencer Public Library joins libraries nationwide in celebrating the dynamic changes that are happening in today’s libraries. April 9-15th is National Library Week, a time to highlight both the value and the changing role of libraries, librarians and library workers.
Libraries today are more than repositories for books and other resources. They are more about what they do, for and with library users. Often the heart of their communities, campuses or schools, libraries are deeply committed to the places where their patrons live, work and study.
Libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also trusted, creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate using new technologies, gather to reconnect and reengage with each other to enrich and shape the community and address local issues, or just relax.
Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including to BRIDGES (Iowa’s eLibrary for eBooks and audiobooks), online databases such as Chilton® Library (auto repair manuals), Powerspeak Languages, and LearningExpress (test preparation, skill building and job preparation resources), our online catalog and more.
We also offer a wide and growing variety of programs including tween and teen book clubs, movie nights, DIY craft classes, cooking classes, anime and fan clubs and more.
Libraries are many things to many people. Librarians work with elected officials, small business owners, students and the public at large to discover what their communities needs are and meet them. Librarians listen to the community they serve, and they respond.
During National Library Week, we are offering free popcorn afternoons, a Family Movie Day, a Storysong Workshop with Chad Elliott, a Teen Escape Room, and several fun contests. Details on our awesome National Library Week programs—and more—inside!
